Since that point, Nintendo have released a number of updates and new models, but which of the different Nintendo DS models is best for buyers?

Despite being the longest lived and most outmoded model, the original DS is still popular. New models are no longer sold in stores, but many are sold for small prices online, and this adds to their fame. The original DS is also fitted to play the earliest incarnations of gaming titles which are not available to the later models. If gamers can get past the size and weight, this device is superb for those on the cheap, the most cost-effective of the different Nintendo DS models.

Next up, the DS Lite did not provide a enormous deviation from the features of the original, but as the name says it reduced the size and weight impressively. Curiously, the DS Lite also has the best battery life of all the different Nintendo DS models, even judged against the newer ones. The DS Lite is still widely popular for those who like cheaper consoles and are not worried about the extra media of the DSi.

The Nintendo DSi produced the most outstanding improvement to the formula. Throwing in tons of cool new multimedia functions, including game downloads and twin cameras. Again, all the features of the original DS were built upon, with the display and audio being expanded. The DSi remains the most technically competent of the different Nintendo DS models, and currently the most well liked.

With the DSi XL arriving soon, there’s lots of choice when making a purchase. The earlier devices offer less features and shine, but are cost effective and still provide brilliant gaming. But if you’re after multimedia capabilities and more bang for your buck, the later models are a smart choice. One point is clear though, all the different Nintendo DS models supply a great gaming choice!
