Canines, like human beings, like to have an area they can call their own. This is possible for them with kennels and crates for dogs. It is more usual to use crates when your dog is inside the house and to use kennels when your dog is outdoors. If your canine is going to stay outside for prolonged periods of time, and especially if you do not have a fenced in yard, you will need a dog kennel to keep your canine secure and comfortable. The dimensions of the kennel will depend on how big your canine is, and do not forget to take into account (if your dog is not yet full grown) how big your pet will eventually get. Most people select either a wire mesh kennel or a galvanized steel kennel for usage outdoors. You have choices for the ground covering ranging from the original soil in your back garden to a concrete slab to gravel. Take into account that if your canine enjoys digging, they may be able to dig beneath the kennel and get away if you go with sand or dirt. It is also a good idea to place some kind of a roof over the kennel. A replaceable tarp that you can fasten down is a good option or you may determine to fit a shingle roof. It has the same excellent characteristics as the other kennel but it will give your canine extra space to stretch out.

Dog crates also come in steel but, also, you will come across them in wood, canvas and plastic. These work well inside your residence and will give your canine a spot that they know belongs to them where they can feel secure. They are also good for carrying your furry friend to veterinarian visits and for other traveling purposes. A lot of the wooden crates are created to look like a piece of furniture and they can be made to match your furnishings and even used as an end table. They start at approximately $200. The wire crates start at about $60, as do the canvas crates. On the less costly side, you’ll find cheap dog crates constructed of plastic that will set you back about $40 but, obviously, the cost is based on not just on the size of your furry friend but also on the features that are important to you.

Kennels and dog crates can be a true advantage to both you and your puppy. For outside, they will have a place where they are safe and you can feel confident leaving them in the knowledge that they are in a protected area and happy. For indoors, both you and your canine friend will be contented in the knowledge that they have a spot to call their own where they can go and feel snug and relaxed.
